Lavang

If you're ever around Solihull and wondering where to find a restaurant that hits the sweet spot between modern Indian flair and comforting familiarity, Lavang on Old Lode Lane deserves your attention. From the moment you step through its wheelchair-accessible entrance, there’s a refined yet relaxed atmosphere that feels both upscale and welcoming-no stuffiness here. It’s the kind of place that balances attentive service with easygoing charm, making it a solid pick whether you’re planning a solo dinner or a catch-up session over cocktails.

Let’s talk food-because Lavang doesn’t hold back when it comes to flavour. One of the clear standouts is the Railway Lamb, a slow-cooked, deeply spiced dish that delivers a hit of nostalgia for classic Anglo-Indian cuisine but elevates it with a contemporary presentation. The Chicken Amritsari Dhal Bhuna is another house favourite-rich, smoky and layered with spices that linger in all the right ways. For seafood lovers, both the Sea Bass and King Prawn mains come expertly grilled, showcasing the kitchen’s light touch when handling fresh ingredients.

If you’re dining in a group or just indecisive, the Mixed Grill Platter is a no-brainer. Packed with tandoori favourites-think charred chicken, juicy lamb, and spicy sausages-it’s a feast that sets the tone for a hearty meal. Vegetarians aren’t left out either; the Paneer Tikka is a showstopper, with perfectly grilled cubes of cheese marinated in spiced yoghurt. It pairs beautifully with a warm Plain Naan, though if you’re feeling indulgent, adding a side of Butter Chicken never hurts.

Now, let's shift gears for a minute. Lavang isn’t just about mains. Their starter game is strong. The Samosa Chaat is one of those dishes you want to order “for the table,” just so everyone gets a bite. Crisp, tangy, creamy-every texture and flavour comes together with finesse. The Prawn Tempura and Veg Spring Rolls nod to fusion influences, offering crunch and subtle seasoning in every bite. And if you’re after something light to warm up your palate, the Tomato Soup-yes, even the soup-has a depth of flavour that's far from basic.

It’s also worth mentioning the drink options. Lavang serves a well-rounded drinks menu, featuring wine, beer, juice, and even artisan coffee for that post-dinner wind-down. The fact that they serve halal food, vegan and vegetarian dishes, plus small plates for lighter appetites, shows their commitment to inclusivity and flexibility. Whether you’re here for a long dinner or a quick takeaway, you’ve got options.

And speaking of takeaway-Lavang makes life easier with kerbside pickup, no-contact delivery, and traditional dine-in service. You could just as easily enjoy their Lemon Posset or Cheesecake at home in your pyjamas as you could with a glass of wine on the outdoor terrace.

It’s easy to see why Lavang has become a go-to spot in the Solihull area. Whether you're craving bold curries, a proper grilled platter, or even just a comforting slice of dessert, this place delivers without overcomplicating things. It’s polished but approachable, traditional but modern-exactly what you want when you’re not in the mood to compromise.

A superb experience from booking to paying! Lovely warm welcome and handshake from a proud owner, superb decor and a very good clean atmosphere. The dry ice display was a new experience for me and was welcomed. The food was in my top five Indians ever. The price point was perfect. The Staff were all amazing and I really enjoyed myself. We've been meaning to try Lavang for a while, as we had heard such good things about it, and it did not disappoint. The food, service and ambience were first class. A really good choice of dishes, the specials all sounded amazing, alongside the standard dishes you would expect. I opted for the sea bass for my main & it was truly delicious. We will definitely be returning.

A beautiful restaurant with accommodating staff and tasty cuisine. We thoroughly enjoyed spending Eid here as a family and cannot recommend enough, even with the busy footfall of customers - the staff are able to manage the volumes and look after all of their guests! The mixed platter was great and worth the £, thank you for a lovely evening.

Such a beautiful place. We really had a lovely time. It’s a small, intimate setting. Staff were really friendly and the food was reasonably priced. I paid £20 for a Korma, Rice and naan with a poppadom. Very impressed. Will be coming back!
